A photo-novel by Fariba Ouni represents stories of personal objects after their owner’s death. Fariba’s work includes collage pieces as well as photographs that have been taken in an old house in Aftab street in Tehran. Owner of the house, a 78 year old diseased Jewish man, Haroun (Aaron), who has lived in this house all his life, left behind several unheard stories and unspoken memories from his personal life.
The dichotomy of doubt and certainty, are essential parts of Mojgan Miri’s art pieces. In her paintings, Mojgan addresses the blurry borders of truth and uncertainty as well as reality and dreams, while she invites the audience to look deeper for the probability of finding peace in between. Characters of her paintings are in a constant struggle with their inner fear, as they gaze into the mirrors to uncover an everlasting certainty.
In works of Jamal Arabzade, we observe still soundless living rooms and waiting areas which draws the attention to the thousand trips that occurred in these spaces through time. Although the artist does not add many details to these spaces, his brilliant choice of furniture carries a mental association for each one of us. The Rooms’ furniture narrates stories of individuals who left these rooms and never came back, or may one day come back again.
Behnoosh Momeni tackles the challenges faced by women in her society and reflects on the child-adult conflict in her works. Her paintings’ characters vacillate between seeing life through the eyes of their inner child and the eyes of a woman who is a survivor. On their inner quest for being included and despite all patriarchal and misogynistic beliefs, her characters held firmly to their sense of tranquility, playfulness, and inner peace as a child.
Paying attention to the details of light, and shadows is the main purpose in the visual structure of Hamidreza’s collections. He challenges the objects in his works to craft a sophistical visual composition.
